News regarding Angel Tree Farm Alpacas...NEW STORE!

As if we didn't have enough to do...our family has opened a new store in the Lansing Place mini-mall by the small Lansing post office and Lisa's Dream Salon. The new store THE PEOPLE'S MARKET of Lansing has a large group of vendors who are supplying it with pottery, hand made jewelry, crafts, soaps and a few talented photographers are supplying it with beautiful framed and un framed prints. There are more than 20 vendors and we make up The People's Market!

Located in the back of the store through another entrance is ENGELS ACCOUNTING! We decided to combine these businesses and also provide a place where local people can display their art! Go to the blog to see what's happening at The Market and some of the items sold there. We are in the process of getting a web site up and running but in the mean time visit our blogs and this website. Google us we are getting out there so watch for us and of course stop by!

Shearing Day at Angel Tree 2011

Yes, it is that time again! It is time for shearing! Sounds exciting doesn't it? Well it is quite a day. A day when you reap the benefits of your labor and get that fleece from the season of growing. We have some beautiful fiber to be harvested. Shearing day is MAY 21st and 22nd at Angel Tree. If you are out and around and curious...stop by and take a look!

oh yes...it is also BIRTHING SEASON...due this week is our first one (of 7!) of the season May 15th! Watch for Kenya's newest cria out of our first born alpaca on the farm Ramsey!

Oh yes...also BREEDING SEASON!...usually done behind the scences in our free time on weekends and evenings! Also entertaining!

Life and death on the farm

The Angel Tree Family has had a very sad year. On Feb. 14th 2011we lost a man we LOVED we lost one of our beloved family members. Mal was just one shining light on the farm. Mal was an inspiration on the farm because he was the epitome of a farmer! He LOVED the farm and enjoyed the little moments he would spend watching the chickens in the farm yard, collecting eggs, mowing a field (yes I have a few pictures of Mal proudly sitting atop a tractor!), watching an alpaca birth and a breeding too! He was a jokester, a prankster and always had a funny word to say. Every day on the farm was a gift to Mal. One he wished he had started long ago but none the less a gift. Not a day goes by that a tear doesn't beckon our eye as we watch a chicken in the yard (fertilizing and egg of course!), an alpaca, a cria, or one of his favorites...the peacocks!

The strangest thing happened on the day of his funeral (Feb. 17th, 2011)...a peacock got loose (from some torn down chicken wire from the snow!) and we thought to ourselves how much he loved these little farm adventures...the good and the bad. It's as if he was there....okay being a pain in the ass... but it felt like he was there! We never did get that peacock back. It like my father had a mind of it's own. A day later there was a terrible wind storm and the beautiful white peacock was gone...forever. Some say they are together. Maybe they are...where we will be one day. But for now, in his honor we will enjoy the farm and try to appreciate it as much as he did!

Mal was able to see the new store just a few weeks before he passed...and was so excited about it's potential. Check it out and see what Mal was looking forward to. I am sure he is there too...life was an adventure to Mal and so it should be that The People's Market will be too!

Our Mission

 Image

Angel Tree Farm Alpacas mission is to provide the public with opportunities to experience the alpaca first hand so that they may develop an understanding of it’s potential as a livestock investment but also as a viable farm animal option. Our additional goal is to develop an understanding of the value of the alpaca as a fiber producing and breeding animal. Our objective is to develop a self-sustaining farm for the future of our family and community.
